Home-grown critical digital infrastructure company YCO Cloud formally launched last Wednesday at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City.  It unveiled its first greenfield project, called YCO Cloud Campus One, a Rated III data center facility being constructed in the Light Industry and Science Park IV in Malvar, Batangas.

“This facility has been designed to be state of the art and can deliver a bespoke solution for hyperscaler and colocation firms. It boils down to a very elegant yet simple design for the site, and Science Park is an excellent location for the facility,” said Jon Paulsen, Co-Managing Director of CloudCenters LLC.

The Philippines is on the cusp of a data center boom, owing to the investment in subsea cables passing through the country to different parts of the region.

“The Philippines is now at the epicenter of the digital information transformation in Southeast Asia, which means that we need people investing into digital infrastructure, data centers, fiber, cell towers…we need all of that coming into the country,” said Nik de Ynchausti, Chief Executive Officer of YCO Cloud. “We want to be part of the delivery to make that happen for the Philippines,” he added.

Philippine Economic Zone Authority’s spokesperson, Atty. Liavel Badillo-Crisostomo, praised YCO Cloud’s goal to accelerate sustainable digital infrastructure in the country. “We recognize and laud YCO Cloud for its noble goal of situating the Philippines as the digital gateway to the Asean region, which aptly addresses one of the pain points of our country,” she said. “YCO Cloud’s launch of this new facility will not only accommodate and integrate the needs of the Philippines’ emerging hyperscale market, but it would potentially attract major players such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Huawei, and other colocators from here and abroad,” Crisostomo emphasized.

Campus One was awarded its TIA 942 Design Certification and ISO 22237 certification by EPI, the largest provider of ANSI/TIA-942 conformity audit and certification services in the world. YCO Cloud is the first data center in the Philippines to receive the ISO 22237 certification.

“There’s not many data centers that have achieved this yet,” said Edward van Leent, Chairman of EPI, of YCO Cloud’s certification for two international standards. Van Leent explained that the TIA 942 audit process validated the design, electrical, mechanical, and  fire suppression aspects of the facility. “This data center is really aimed at the mission critical sector. Customers can have the confidence that the IT equipment and all the data are well-protected both from an availability point of view and from a security point of view,” he said.

The Ynchaustis brought together a best-in-class team to design and build its maiden foray into the data center space, beginning with US top-rated firms Gensler, Thornton Tomasetti, Syska Hennessy, and CloudCenters LLC. The local build team is composed of construction giant D.M. Consunji Inc., renowned architectural firm Jose Siao Ling and Associates, and Design Coordinates, Inc.

Among those in attendance were former Senate President Franklin Drilon and Atty. Edwin Lacierda, both board advisors of YCO Cloud; PEZA spokesperson Atty. Liavel Badillo-Crisostomo, Jorge and David Consunji of DMCI, and Guillermo Luchangco and Richard Osmond of Science Park of the Philippines.
